Description
Baicalin (baicalin) is a kind of flavonoid compound extracted from the dry root of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, a bicotyledonous plant. It is a light yellow powder at normal temperature and bitter taste. Difficult to dissolve in methanol, ethanol, acetone, slightly soluble in chloroform and nitrobenzene, almost insoluble in water, soluble in acetic acid. When ferric chloride is shown in green, it is precipitated in orange by lead of acetic acid. Soluble in alkali and ammonia in yellow, soon become black brown. Has significant biological activity, has antibacterial, diuresis, anti-inflammatory, cholesterol, resisting thrombosis, relieve asthma, purging fire, detoxification, hemostatic, fetus, anti allergy and spasmolysis effect, as well as the specificity of the mammalian liver sialidase inhibitors, has to adjust the action of certain diseases, physiological efficiency also has strong anticancer reaction.

Functions
1. Effects on digestive system: alcohol extract of huang qin or its ingredient baicalin can promote secretion of bile but another ingredient wogonin does not have this effect. Baicalein can promote movements of extra body intestines of rabbits but wogonin does not have this effect. Huang qin possesses a mild diarrhea effect.
